Simple truth miscalled simplicity

Pomegranate and glass of water. 10"×10" (25.4 x 25.4 cm). Oil on linen. November 2011.
A very simple painting – straightforward geometry, decorative flat planes for background. Just a hint of volume in the fruit, just a bit of life and movement in the water. Primary colors -- reds, blues, a bit of yellow; with just a hint of quasi-impressionistic modulation. It's a painting about the simple truth of painting, about how little we need to identify shapes and colors as familiar mundane objects.
