Still life with cabbage and a jar of olives. 12"x12", oil on linen panel.
As an introductory test post for this new blog, one of my recent personal favorites.

This is a really, really simple still life -- simple mundane things, plain straightforward contrast between "flat" decorative areas and shape-modelling ones, between the organic movements of brushstrokes in the cabbage and the simplified geometry of the cloth and the glass, the direct, bordering on naive, juxtaposition of all colours of the wheel.

At another level, it opposes and explores different ways in which what would seem like "the" colour of an object splits into a rainbow if you stop to look.
